WORLD READ ALOUD DAY!

It's WORLD READ ALOUD DAY! Something wonderful just happened to me, (which I'm not at liberty to disclose . . . yet ;) but it is definitely related to reading aloud. Stay tuned!

In the meanwhile, I'd like to dedicate this day to my wonderful parents, who read to me from the time I was born (and probably before) and never tired of "one more time." I'm also sending a shout out to all of you read aloud parents and teachers. Thank you, Mrs. Clarke, for reading Harriet the Spy to our fifth grade class. If you would like the book back, email me your address (I borrowed it over the summer...)

So who read to you and who are you reading to???

Happy reading!

  1. First, congratulations on the something wonderful! Yay!

Ah, my mom read to us. All the time. I especially remember her reading at dinner (she ate with my dad later when he got home from work), and recently she confessed it was just to keep the four of us in our seats for a meal! I do the same with my four -- with the same goal. Bedtime reading, of course, was routine. It continues to be in my house now. I read to the kids, they read to each other, round and round. They even let me videotape them for my WRAD blog post today!

Cheers to everyone who helps to grow readers!

  2. I agree there is something magical about being read aloud to. My third grade teacher read us Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I've craved Wonka bars ever since. I'm reading Milo, Sticky Notes and Brain Freeze by Alan Silberberg to my class. It's got graphics sprinkled through so I am using the Kindle app. on my Smartboard to read to them.

    1. The title of that book is so enticing--I've been wanting to read it. Wow, you are really high tech! I bet the kids just love it!

  3. When you read Milo, have tissues ready. It goes from laughing to crying in two seconds flat.
